FAQs: General
1. I have no interest in surfing. Is Surf Life Executive Coaching right for me?
Surf Life Executive Coaching is NOT just for surfers, or those who want to explore surfing as a way to explore their fears. In fact, most of my clients do not surf! My executive packages do not involve you getting in the water; these sessions can take place via phone or in person. I also offer in-person coaching sessions (walking sessions) in the San Francisco Bay Area.
2. I am interested in hiring an Executive Coach to work with my employees. Do you have coaching packages for corporations / business organizations?
Yes, I do provide executive and organizational coaching for both business leaders and employees. Please contact me to discuss your organization’s corporate coaching needs.
3. Do you have payment plans?
You are encouraged to speak to me about payment plans if you are in need of one.
FAQs: 1 Day Surf Life Immersion*
1. How did you come up with the methodology for the 1 Day Surf Life Immersion?
The first step was to acknowledge and pull from my experience of facing my own fears in surfing and in the ocean, and working through and overcoming my own traumatic stress injuries as a result of risk taking in the ocean. I then relied on my training as a Co-Active Coach and surfer as a base for creating the Surf Life Immersion.
After I came up with the basic coaching and surfing framework for the immersion, I further refined it by consulting with a sports psychologist and leading neurosurgeon (both of whom are surfers and friends) on the methodology and principles of the program. I also discussed the idea with numerous surfers to gauge how they would go about using surfing as a way to help people face, explore and overcome fears.
Other methodology for the immersion was inspired by my research from positive psychology and neuroscience thinkers found in books such as Chip and Dan Heath’s “Switch: How to Change When Change is Hard”, Sian Beilock’s "Choke: What The Secrets Of The Brain Reveal About Getting It Right When You Have To" and Charles Duhigg’s “The Power of Habit."
After the basic framework was developed, I began piloting the program with clients, eliciting feedback from them after each experience in order to make the Surf Life Immersion the quality experience it is today.
2. I’m really scared to do the 1 Day Surf Life Immersion but want to try. What should I expect?
Being afraid is actually a good thing and one of the primary reasons people do Surf Life – to face, explore and overcome their fears and to explore unknown territory in their business or life. I tailor each Surf Life Immersion to your age, athletic ability, and experience with the ocean in a safe and fun way. Immersions are done on weekdays to avoid crowds. I break down the surfing process into steps, so there is no pressure to perform. The surfing is held as an experience, one that will help you self-discover and help you work through your fears.
3. How good of a swimmer should I be for the 1 Day Surf Life Immersion?
You should be able to tread water for a minimum of two (2) minutes and demonstrate an ability to swim unassisted for a minimum of fifty (50) yards.
4. Do you offer the 1 Day Surf Life Immersion for groups?
I offer Surf Life Immersions for up to 2 people at a time.
