Surf Life Foundations for Architects and Designers Session #5: Your Future Architect Self

Dear Surf Lifers,
 
Welcome to session #5 of Surf Life Foundations for Architects and Designers!  We have been through quite a journey from exploring values to internal leadership voices of the Captain and Saboteur, to exploring your greater purpose.  I hope you feel some things start to shift and open up for you.  Perhaps you even had an ah-ha moment through it all.  If you have, great! 
 
This session we will focus on something I like to call your Future Architect Self.  It sounds exactly as it is – who your future self is as an architect in 10 years! To dream into the future, we want to move ourselves to the right hemisphere of the brain to focus on possibilities and a vision of what could be.   Whenever we close our eyes, it activates the right hemisphere of the brain more and allows us deeper access to think in the realm of possibilities. 
 
So I invite you to sit back, relax and follow the guided visualization below to meet your Future Architect Self.  Remember to find a place you can relax, kick back, and just chill while you close your eyes and listen to the journey below.  After, you’ll take some notes on what you saw and then answer the questions below.

Exercise 1:  Listen
Please set aside some uninterrupted time to kick back, relax and to listen to the attached guided visualization to meet your Future Architect Self.  Take notes of what you saw after you finish listening to it.  If sketching or drawing is a better medium for you, you can do that too!

Exercise 2: After completing the guided visualization, write answers to the reflection questions below:
  • What was it like to meet Your Future Architect Self?  What did you notice about them and the space they were in?
  • What do you remember about what impact your Future Architect Self was having on the world?
  • What did they say were the key milestones that helped them get to where they are?
  • What does this tell you about what your purpose is?
  • What are 3-5 steps you can take this year to get you closer to your future architect self?

Exercise 3: Explore the next steps you are committed to taking going forward. 
  • What is one action you want to commit to doing this week that will move you closer to your purpose?  In the next month?  In the next quarter?
  • Who will you share your commitments with? 
  • What are you realizing about yourself?
  • What's next for you?
